What impact do we plan to have?
Women go through so much change during and after pregnancy, physically and mentally, and these changes are different from person to person.
At Viva Core, we are focussing on the impact of childbirth on the body - before, during and after pregnancy, and how we can help to improve women’s longer term outcomes in relation to this.
Our main offering is Reformer & Equipment Pilates, but this is not your average Pilates class. We want to pay attention to each woman and their specific needs. I have first hand experience of aches and pains long after birth, and it’s easy to normalise this and suffer in silence. As a soon to be qualified Body Control Pilates Instructor, I am learning that moving the body in the right way can have huge benefits for effective exercise and in turn reduce the possibility of harm. This is about respecting the body and taking time to breathe, about creating a space for women to come together, have a laugh and build their strength or heal their bodies - one movement at a time.
In the short-term, it’s about body awareness, correct movement and strength building.
In the longer-term, we want to work with GPs and other healthcare partners to improve the postnatal pathway for women.
